Katrina calls for public comment on Crookwell River Bridge replacement

The Nationals Member for Burrinjuck, Katrina Hodgkinson is seeking public comment on plans to replace the single lane Crookwell River Timber Truss Bridge located on the Binda Road about 10 kilometres north of Crookwell.

"As part of the NSW Government’s Bridges for the Bush initiative, the existing timber truss bridge over the Crookwell River was identified as needing replacement," Katrina said.
"This initiative is part of the commitment from NSW Government to improve road safety and road freight productivity by replacing or upgrading higher mass limit deficient bridges in the next five years at 17 key locations in rural and regional NSW.
"The bridge is also included in the state wide Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) Timber Truss Road Bridges - A Strategic Approach to Conservation strategy."

Katrina said RMS is seeking community feedback about plans to replace the bridge with submissions closing on 27 February 2013. Comment can be sent to the Project Manager Janneth Baquero Robles via email to, mail to PO Box 477 Wollongong NSW 2520, phoning 02 4221 2414 or by the internet at

"RMS is proposing the construction of a new concrete bridge about 15 metres downstream of the existing bridge," Katrina said.

"The new bridge will have a lane in each direction with two metre shoulders for cyclists and upgraded road approaches.

"It will improve the safety and capacity of the NSW freight network by allowing higher mass limit vehicles to use it."

"Work to replace the bridge is expected to start midyear and, weather permitting, will take about 10-12 months to complete.

"This project is a direct investment of $4.5m by the NSW Government in road infrastructure in the Upper Lachlan Shire to improve the capacity of the NSW freight network and ensure a safer bridge for the community," Katrina said.
