Manilla Road upgrade starts next week

Kevin Anderson Member for Tamworth today announced work will start next week to upgrade Manilla Road at Tamworth.

"Residents have been calling for this upgrade and this will be welcomed by residents of Tamworth and visitors coming in from surrounding areas.

"Manilla Road has long been recognised as major route in and out of the city and this $3million upgrade is much anticipated.

"Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) are working with Tamworth Regional Council to deliver the project in two stages.

“Work will include the widening and resurfacing Manilla Road from Johnston Street to west of Brolga Crescent and installing a dedicated central lane to separate turning traffic.

“All of these upgrades will improve safety, access, travel times and congestion,” Mr Anderson said.

Work will be carried out on weekdays from 7am to 6pm and Saturdays from 8am to 1pm. The project is expected to be completed in mid July, weather permitting.

Motorists can expect minor delays and the speed limit will be reduced to 40km/h during work hours and outside of work hours it will be 60km/h.

"There will be several months of works being undertaken, I am asking residents to take extra time and care when travelling over the works period.

"This is major road work on a very busy route into the city, every effort will be made to minimise noise associated with the work - expect delays, obey directions and signage.

"RMS has written to residents with driveways and properties fronting Manilla Road.

Residents will have their vehicle access to their properties disrupted if you have any concerns contact Kylie Douglas from Tamworth Regional Council on (02) 6767 5005.

"The outcomes of this $3million upgrade will be worth it, said Mr Anderson.
