Road widening of Goldfields Way at Barmedman Creek

Member for Murrumbidgee Adrian Piccoli advises that Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) have started work to widen a section of Goldfields Way, immediately south of Barmedman.

“The $1.2 million project is funded under the State Highways Widening Program,” Mr Piccoli said.

"Widening work will be carried out on 4.3 kilometres of road about 30 kilometres north of Temora.

"The work will be carried out in stages and will involve road widening, drainage work and removal of vegetation.

"By providing consistent 3.5 metre wide lanes with one metre wide sealed shoulders, the widening work will improve road safety on this important link between the Olympic and Newell highways.

"The work will improve sight distances and drainage and will also provide a five metre clear zone, reducing the risk of crashes resulting from vehicles leaving the road.

"Each tree removed will be replaced with 10 trees planted at other appropriate nearby locations.

"Work will be carried out weekdays from 7am to 4pm and Saturdays from 7am to 1pm.

"During work one lane will be closed to traffic and a reduced speed limit will be enforced.

"Traffic controllers will guide motorists through the worksite.

"Motorists are advised to plan their journey, allow extra travel time and obey all signs.

"Stage one is expected to be completed by May, weather permitting," Mr Piccoli said.
