New traffic lights at Newcastle Link Road

Trevor Khan, the Nationals Duty MLC for Cessnock, today announced Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) has switched on traffic lights at the intersections of Newcastle Link Road, Cameron Park Drive and Woodford Street providing motorists with safer and clearer direction.

“The new lights as well as two other nearby sets of lights are being installed and switched on as part of an RMS upgrade of intersections between the F3 Freeway at Seahampton and Newcastle,” Trevor Khan said.

“Lights at the intersection of Newcastle Link Road, Lake Road and Thomas Street will be switched on by the end of the week.

“Lights at the intersection of Newcastle Road and Douglas Street are scheduled to be switched on by June, weather permitting.

“The $61 million NSW Government funded intersection upgrades are being delivered as traffic is expected to be redistributed on parts of the Hunter road network when the Hunter Expressway is opened at the end of this year, weather permitting.

“The Hunter Expressway is going to make a big change to traffic in the Hunter area and forward planning is a priority to ensure the changes are seamless for motorists.

“The lights are also going to provide a safe crossing for pedestrians, which is vital as these intersections are predicted to have increased traffic volumes once the expressway is open.

“The six intersections between the F3 Freeway and Newcastle were selected after a study to identify and prioritise future upgrade work.”

This includes:

  • Newcastle Link Road/Cameron Park Drive/Woodford Street,
  • Lake Road/Newcastle Link Road/Thomas Street,
  • Thomas Street/Longworth Avenue,
  • Douglas Street/Newcastle Road,
  • Croudace Street/Newcastle Road,
  • Main Road/Newcastle Road at Jesmond.

“The upgraded intersection and traffic lights being switched on is great news for motorists as it will provide clearer and therefore safer direction when travelling on the Newcastle Link Road” Trevor Khan said.
