Road safety to be improved at Princes Highway/Bridge Road, intersection
Member for South Coast Shelley Hancock today announced safety for northbound motorists turning left from the Princes Highway into Bridge Road will be improved with the installation of dedicated left turn lane.
"Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is making a number of safety improvements to the Princes Highway at Nowra as part of the decommissioning of the fixed speed camera just south of Bridge Road," Mrs Hancock said.
“The work will involve converting the existing road shoulder into a left turn bay and the installation of a red arrow at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Bridge Road to improve pedestrian safety.
“The existing traffic lights at the intersections of the Princes Highway with Bolong and Illaroo roads and Moss and Worrigee streets will also be upgraded to LED lights.
“The upgraded traffic lights will improve visibility for motorists, reducing the risk of running a red light. The multiple globes in the LED lights mean one can go out and the light can still operate.
Some road resurfacing work will also be carried out from the intersection of Bridge Road for about 80 metres south on the Princes Highway.
“Work is being carried out from 7pm to 5am, Sunday to Thursday nights.
“One lane will be closed during work for the safety of motorists and workers.
“Motorists will be guided through the work site by traffic control and a reduced roadwork speed limit will be in place,” Mrs Hancock said.
Work is expected to be completed by Friday 10 May with workers on site intermittently to finalise work on the traffic lights until end of June 2013, weather permitting.
