Shared path to be built on River Road at Shoalhaven Heads

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward today announced that work has started to build a shared path on River Road at Shoalhaven Heads to improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians.

“The $130,000 project will be built with joint funding from Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) and Shoalhaven City Council,” Mr Ward said.

“About 350 metres of 2.5 metre wide concrete off road shared path will be built from the northern side of River Road near Bolt Street.

“The path will travel east for about 75 metres and cross to the southern side of River Road.

“It will then follow the natural embankment of the Shoalhaven River toward the east and connect to an existing walkway.

“Signs will be installed along the path to advise it can be used by pedestrians and cyclists and holding rails will also be installed to improve cyclist safety.

“This area is particularly well used by the local community and visitors especially during weekends and holidays.

“The path will provide cyclists and pedestrians with an off road option and will improve safety for all road users.

“Work to install the path is expected to be completed by the end of June, weather permitting,” Mr Ward said.
