Intersection improvements at South Head Road at Moruya

Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is getting on with the job of improving safety and traffic flow at the intersection of South Head Road and the Princes Highway at Moruya.

“The NSW Government has provided $1 million to improve safety at the intersection and provide a smoother drive for motorists,” Member for Bega Andrew Constance said.

“RMS held drop in sessions in August last year to gain feedback from the community about near miss and unreported crashes, pedestrian activity and local road safety and traffic knowledge at the intersection.

“RMS produced a report outlining issues raised during community consultation.

“The issues were considered as part of RMS' investigations into possible options to improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection.

“RMS investigated a number of measures against a range of criteria including safety, efficiency, cost, community feedback, environmental impact and property acquisition.

“A roundabout was considered to be the best option to improve safety and traffic flow and meet cost and environmental objectives.

“MS plans to start work on the roundabout in late June, weather permitting.

“One lane of the Princes Highway will be closed during work and traffic will pass through the intersection under the control of portable traffic lights.

“Electronic message signs will advise motorists of the changes to traffic conditions.

“Work is expected to take 12 weeks to complete,” Mr Constance said
