Work to start on South Head Road roundabout at Moruya

Member for Bega Andrew Constance today announced Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) will start construction on Monday on the roundabout at the intersection of South Head Road and the Princes Highway at Moruya.

Mr Constance was unable to be on site on Friday to turn the first sod as he was named acting Finance Minister by Premier Barry O’Farrell Friday morning and had to return to Sydney.

Clr Danielle Brice and Mrs Jenny Butt officially represented Mr Constance and turned the first sod for works to commence on Monday.

Mr Constance said he was extremely grateful for the community involvement and their willingness to work together to see this project become a reality.

“I welcome the RMS decision to proceed with this much needed infrastructure,” Mr Constance.

“The NSW Government has provided $1 million to improve safety and traffic flow for motorists at the intersection.

“A roundabout was considered to be the best option to reduce the risk of crashes and provide a smoother trip for motorists.

“RMS will carry out work on weekdays from 7am to 6pm and on Saturday from 8am to 1pm.

“Partial lane closures will be required at times during work hours and traffic will be able to move through the worksite under the guidance of traffic control.

“A reduced roadwork speed limit of 40km/h will be in place both during and after work hours for the next few weeks.

“Work is expected to be completed by September, weather permitting,” Mr Constance said.

Some night work may be needed during the project.  RMS will advise the community if this is required.

Motorists are advised to plan their journey, allow more travel time and obey all signs.
