George Souris, M.P., Member for Upper Hunter, said the Cuan Bridge has reopened to traffic with work completed to provide motorists with a straighter, wider and smoother link over Guan Gua Creek.

”The NSW Government provided more than $300,000 for the overhaul to the bridge and its approaches,” Mr. Souris said.

“The original 4.8 metre narrow bridge was built in 1927 has been replaced with a concrete bridge with a stronger and safer road surface.

“Upper Hunter Shire Council carried out the work which will serve the community well into the future.

“Roads and Maritime Services thanks motorists and the community for their patience while this work was carried out to provide safe access between Scone and Merriwa.

“Work to upgrade the bridge started in October 2012.

“This project is part of the NSW Government’s commitment to upgrading and maintaining regional bridges providing vital access in the Upper Hunter,” Mr. Souris concluded.
