Trial drilling in the Gibraltar Range

Nationals MP for Clarence, Chris Gulaptis has advised that preliminary work starts next week on the Gilbraltar Range in preparation for major repairs to a section of road damaged during a landslip in February on the Gwydir Highway, 79km west of Grafton.

Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) will carry out drilling for about two weeks starting from Monday 19 August, weather permitting.

The highway will be reduced to one lane and a speed limit of 40km/h will be in place on this section.

Major work to repair the road is expected to be carried out later this year.

RMS engaged engineers to investigate the stability of the mountain in several areas and will continue to monitor the area while work is being carried out.

Motorists are reminded to obey reduced speed limits and to follow the directions of traffic controllers.
