New 40 KM/H school zone on Bletchington Street at Orange

Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) has improved safety for school children and their families on Bletchington Street at Orange near Summer Hill School with the installation of a new 40km/h speed zone.

Member for Orange Andrew Gee said Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) listened to community feedback calling for a review of the existing 50km/h speed zone and the installation of a new bus stop on Bletchington Street.

“It makes sense to reduce the speed limit to improve pedestrian safety at the most used accesses to and from the school. This includes the new bus stop area,” Mr Gee said.

“Previously all vehicle and pedestrian access to the school was on Dalton Street.

“The growth in the Summer Hill School population means the separation of bus movements from parent pick up and drop off areas will improve pedestrian safety and minimise traffic congestion.

“The new 240 metre 40km/h is being installed between the intersections of Spring and Calang Streets.

“The new school zone signs are now in place, and motorists should slow down.

“RMS urges motorists to comply with the new 40 km/h school zone on Bletchington Street to ensure the safety of all road users, particularly school students in the area,” Mr Gee said.
