Hornsby Heavy Vehicle Checking Station

Temporary closure of Hornsby Heavy Vehicle Checking Station
Roads and Maritime Services will temporarily close the Heavy Vehicle Inspection Station (HVIS) on the corner of the Pacific Highway and Bridge Street at Hornsby from Tuesday, October 8 for essential upgrade work.
Heavy vehicle inspections will need to be carried out at alternative checking stations during the upgrade which will continue until January, 2014.
Heavy vehicle operators will be redirected to either Silverwater, Botany, Penrith, Wetherill Park and West Gosford stations which will add about one hour in traveling time.
Roads and Maritime is offering four extra inspection appointments per day at Hornsby until the closure and encourages drivers to book early to avoid inconvenience.
Hornsby State Liberal MP Matt Kean said the existing inspection station is more than 20 years old and has serviced tens of thousands of heavy vehicles in its time.
“Improvement work is needed to ensure worker and customer safety for ongoing quality service into the future,” Mr Kean said.
The $400,000 NSW Government funded upgrade will include lengthening the station structure and installing roller doors at either end.
Access to the site will also be levelled to improve the entry and exit.
Mr Kean said the upgrade will also offer more shelter for inspectors in wet and windy conditions and a larger structure for long trucks.
“The work has been scheduled around the end of year holidays which traditionally have the lowest number of bookings,” Mr Kean said.
“Roads and Maritime will keep customers informed before the station reopens in January, weather permitting.”
Roads and Maritime thanks customers for their patience while the upgrade is carried out.
