Safer travel on Moss Vale Road at Kangaroo Valley

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward today announced that maintenance work will soon start on Moss Vale Road and Hampden Bridge at Kangaroo Valley to improve safety for road users.

“The NSW Government provided $600,000 to upgrade Moss Vale Road between Hampden Bridge and Cavan Road to improve travel for all road users and reduce future maintenance costs,” Mr Ward said.

“Work will start on Wednesday 9 October until the end of November, weather permitting.

“Roads and Maritime will carry out the work in stages and will install a new road surface, widen road shoulders, install new drains and upgrade existing bus bays, gutters and property access.

“Work hours will be from 7am to 5pm on weekdays and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays with no work to be carried out during the Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival.

“Moss Vale Road will be reduced to one lane of traffic during the work and traffic control will be in place to ensure motorists can safely pass the work site and access properties.

“Lanes will reopen to traffic outside of work hours and signs will be in place to advise commuters and pedestrians of temporary changes to bus stops and footpaths.

“Resealing work will also be carried out on the Hampden Bridge until November as part of the bridge restoration.

“Hampden Bridge will need to be closed for thirty minutes in early November to complete resealing with residents to be advised two weeks in advance of the work.

“A small camera will be installed at each end of the bridge to monitor if vehicles weighing more than 42.5 tonnes are crossing the bridge and causing future maintenance impacts. Light vehicle, heavy vehicle and pedestrian access will be maintained during the work.

“Every effort will be made to reduce the impact of noise and delays and I would certainly like to sincerely thank road users for their patience while the essential maintenance is carried out,” Mr Ward said.
