Planning for a safer Newell Highway at Forbes

Member for the Dubbo electorate, Troy Grant has welcomed the news that Roads and Maritime Services has started planning to upgrade the Newell Highway at Forbes.

“Road safety is a major concern within regional NSW and this work will see an increase in safety for motorists between the Union and Sherriff streets intersections and extend the life of the road reducing ongoing maintenance costs,” Mr Grant said.

“The NSW Government provided around $800,000 to upgrade the road surface and install new line marking along this stretch of road also known as Dowling Street,”

The local community and stakeholders will be invited to a staffed display in November at the Forbes Town Hall Concourse to learn more about the planned work.

The work is expected to take about two weeks to complete, weather permitting, and is scheduled to start early next year.

Road closures will be needed to safely carry out the work including a small section of Sherriff Street which would be closed to store work materials. Traffic would be diverted locally and access to properties would be maintained.

Affected residents and businesses will be advised of the road closures at least two weeks before work starts.
