$1.5 million Hume Highway upgrade at Ashfield

Motorists will soon be able to travel along an improved section of the Hume Highway between Thomas and Queen Streets Ashfield, according to the Member for Strathfield, Charles Casuscelli.

“The work on a $1.5 million project to improve the road surface gets underway this Sunday, 3 November.

“The NSW Government provided the funding for the work which will clearly improve road safety whilst providing a much smoother surface for road users,” said Mr Casuscelli.

Part of the work undertaken by Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) will involve pressure grouting and diamond grinding of the existing concrete road slabs to improve its surface. The second stage of work involves replacing concrete slabs and line marking. “It is anticipated that the work will take about two weeks to complete and will be carried out from Sunday to Friday nights between 8pm and 5am, weather permitting of course.

“Whilst diamond grinding can involve some noise being created, I understand that surrounding residents received prior notice from RMS of the intention to undertake the work and every effort will be made to minimise the noise impact,” Mr Casuscelli said.

Some partial road closures will be in place while the work is carried out in order to ensure the safety of both workers and motorists.

“Minor delays can be expected and motorists should be especially mindful of the need to obey all signs including reduced speed limits during this period,” said Mr Casuscelli.

The project is part of Roads and Maritime’s ongoing commitment to deliver safe, efficient and high quality road services and infrastructure to the community and businesses of NSW.
