Work under way on Ocean Beach Road pedestrian crossing upgrade
Work is under way on a pedestrian safety upgrade to Ocean Beach Road at Woy Woy near Woy Woy South Public School.
Member for Gosford, Chris Holstein, said Roads and Maritime Services is improving pedestrian safety, particularly for school students, by installing traffic lights and providing other safety infrastructure along the busy road.
“Traffic lights will replace the existing marked pedestrian crossing and the school crossing supervisor to provide a higher level of safety at the pedestrian crossing,” Mr Holstein said.
“Work will also include installing a concrete median along the centre of the road and carrying out minor adjustments to the entry of the school’s parking area.
“These improvements were identified through Roads and Maritime safety audits and consultation with stakeholders, including representatives of the school, following the decommissioning of the speed camera on Ocean Beach Road.
“Work is expected to be completed by late February, weather permitting.”
Work will be carried out Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm and Saturday between 8am and 1pm.
The current entry to Woy Woy Public School will be closed from 6 January to 28 January 2014 with entry to the school and associated lane ways via Balaclava Avenue during this time.
Access via Balaclava Avenue will be sign posted during this period as two lane and dual directional for local residents only. The school entry will return to existing one way traffic conditions when reopened on 28 January 2014 with entry via Ocean Beach Road.
Motorists and pedestrians are asked to follow all signs including reduced speed limits and the direction of traffic controllers. Minor delays are expected due to the changed traffic conditions.
