Newell Highway at Forbes reopens ahead of schedule

Member for the Dubbo electorate, Troy Grant today said motorists are already enjoying the benefits of improved road safety with Roads and Maritime Services completing an upgrade of the Newell Highway at Forbes three days ahead of schedule.

“The NSW Government provided $800,000 to rebuild a stretch of the highway, also known as Dowling Street, and install new line marking. I am pleased the early completion has minimised disruptions for local business owners, residents and motorists,” Mr Grant said.

Mr Grant said the work was the result of a joint effort between Roads and Maritime and Forbes Shire Council.

“I’d like to thank the community for their patience during work which required the highway to temporarily close to traffic between Union and Sheriff streets.

“Road safety is a major concern for regional NSW and as a result of this work we will see an increase in safety for motorists, extend the life of the road and reduce ongoing maintenance costs.”

Mr Grant said repairs to local streets used as a detour during work will be carried out this week.
