O’Connell Road safety improvements to start next week
Motorists will soon benefit from safer conditions on O’Connell Road west of Oberon with major upgrade work to start next week.
Paul Toole Member for Bathurst said the NSW Government provided $2.75 million for the project which includes road widening, surfacing and drainage improvements to reduce skid risks along a 2.3 kilometre stretch of road.
New bend advisory signs will also be installed as part of the upgrade.
“Once work is complete motorists travelling on O’Connell Road will benefit from a safer and smoother journey. The stronger road surface to be installed is designed for all traffic including heavy vehicles which will result in reduced maintenance costs.”
“This project is an example of Roads and Maritime Services’ commitment to improving regional roads in western NSW. Mr Toole said.
Work will start on Monday February 3 and is scheduled for completion in September, weather permitting.
Oberon Council will carry out the work on behalf of Roads and Maritime on weekdays from 7am to 6pm and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays.
Changed traffic conditions and reduced speed limits will be in place while work is carried out.
Motorists are advised to plan their journey, allow extra travel time and follow all signs.
