$3 Million upgrade starts on Wine Country Drive

Work has today started to upgrade a section of Wine Country Drive at Rothbury.

Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Roads Ray Williams MP said the NSW Government has provided $3.3 million to upgrade the road which provides vital access to the Hunter’s vineyards.

“The project involves rebuilding 1.9 kilometres of Wine Country Drive between McDonalds and Wilderness roads at Rothbury,” Mr Williams said.

“The upgrade includes installing safety barriers and widening the road to improve safety for cyclists and motorists.

“The project will improve road safety and provide a better road surface for all motorists, resulting in reduced ongoing maintenance costs.

“Improvements will also be carried out to drainage and signs in addition to minor alignment improvements associated with the widening.”

The work will be carried out in stages and full road closures with detours may be required. Roads and Maritime Services will consult with local residents and businesses before road closures and detours are planned.

The upgrade is expected to be completed in September, weather permitting.

Most of the work will be carried out on weekdays between 9am and 3pm with traffic control in place to safely guide motorists. Any work required at night or on Saturdays will be kept to a minimum.

One lane will be closed while the work is carried out with reduced speed limits in place during work hours. Motorists may experience minor delays.
