Have your say on $1 million Green Square pedestrian safety boost
Community members and public transport users are invited to give feedback to a proposal to improve safety at the intersection of Bourke Road, Wyndham Street and O’Riordan Street at Alexandria.
“Roads and Maritime Services is proposing to install new crossing points at this busy Alexandria intersection to improve pedestrian safety and access, especially to and from Green Square train station,” Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Roads Ray Williams MP said.
“The proposal has been developed in response to community concerns, recent pedestrian crashes and high traffic volumes through the intersection which links to several major roads.
“Four pedestrian crossings are proposed to be installed at traffic lights and one zebra crossing away from traffic lights.
“Feedback is invited to the proposal by Friday 7 March to Roads and Maritime Project Manager Navin Prasad PO Box 973, Parramatta NSW 2124 or by email to Navin.Prasad@rms.nsw.gov.au.
“A community update is being distributed to local residents and businesses with photos of the planned crossings.
“Transport for NSW, UrbanGrowth NSW and the City of Sydney Council are progressing longer term plans for the development of the area with improved access to the station being considered as part of the plans.
“The proposed pedestrian crossings are an interim solution until longer term plans are implemented.
“The work forms part of Roads and Maritime’s commitment to improving safety across the road network for all road users.” Mr Williams said.
Roads and Maritime thanks residents in advance for their input to the project and will keep the community updated as work progresses.
