Investigation work for essential maintenance on Wollongong roads
Roads and Maritime Services is carrying out road investigation work around Wollongong next month to help with planning for essential maintenance.
Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Roads said the NSW Government has provided $33.7 million this year for maintenance and improvement work on State Roads in the Illawarra to enable safe and efficient journeys for motorists.
Core sampling work involving testing the road surface and sub layers will be carried out.
This provides information about the existing road structure and condition to help assess the remaining service life and what resurfacing option will optimise road safety and longevity.
Investigations will be carried out on Bourke Street between Kembla and Flinders streets at North Wollongong on Sunday 2 March and on Crown Street between Mangerton Road and Thames Street at West Wollongong on Monday 3 March.
The same investigations will also be carried out on Flinders Street between Station Street and Ajax Avenue at North Wollongong on Tuesday 11 March 2014.
Work will take place each night from 8pm to 2pm, weather permitting to reduce the impact on motorists.
Traffic changes will be in place around the work sites and traffic control will be place to guide motorists through the area.
Every effort will be made to minimise noise associated with the work.
Roads and Maritime apologises for the inconvenience and thanks motorists for their patience while this important work is carried out.
