Mitchell Highway safety upgrade

Member for the Dubbo electorate, Troy Grant has announced motorists who travel on the Mitchell Highway will soon be safer with a $3.3 million NSW Government project to provide a new westbound overtaking lane north west of Wellington at Wongarbon.

Mr Grant said the work, scheduled to start on 21 March, would provide safer overtaking opportunities for all motorists between Wellington and Dubbo.

“Roads and Maritime Services will build the new 1.5 kilometre overtaking lane on the highway, 31 kilometres north west of Wellington.”

“Safety improvements will also be carried out to the Beni Road intersection, providing a protected right hand turn lane for motorists leaving the highway.

“This work is part of the NSW Government’s commitment to enable safe and efficient journeys for motorists in western NSW.”

Work will be carried out on weekdays from 7am to 5pm and is expected to be completed by the end of September, weather permitting.

Motorists are advised to take extra care when driving through the work site as lanes will be reduced in width for the crew to carry out work safely.

The speed limit will be reduced to 40 km/h through the worksite.

Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and follow all signs.
