Work starts on $2.5 million upgrade of Gwydir Highway at Biniguy
Roads and Maritime Services is advising motorists changed traffic conditions will be in place for the next six months on the Gwydir Highway, east of Moree for continuing work as part of a $2.5 million upgrade.
Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries said he was thrilled to see funding directed to this stretch of the highway.
“Work to widen the shoulders of the highway and resurface six kilometres of the road will be carried out to reduce future maintenance costs and improve safety and efficiency on this key rural road,” Mr Humphries said.
“Drainage in the area will also be improved, with the work part of ongoing efforts by the NSW Government to build better and safer roads in western NSW.”
Work will be carried out on weekdays from 7am to 6pm.
Work is expected to be completed by the end of October, weather permitting.
During work, traffic will use one lane of the highway with traffic lights and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h to guide motorists.
After work hours one lane will remain closed and the speed limit will be reduced to 60 km/h or 80 km/h.
Motorists are advised to plan their journey, allow extra travel time and follow all signs.
