Cessnock Road at Ryhope to get $2 Million upgrade

Work will start next week on a $2 million upgrade of Cessnock Road at Ryhope to improve safety for road users.

Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Roads Ray Williams MP said the upgrade will be carried out on a two kilometre section between Mulbring Street and Wakefield Road from Monday 5 May, weather permitting.

“Work will involve rebuilding and resurfacing the road, installing roadside safety barriers and widening sections of the road to improve access to driveways,” Mr Williams said.

“The work will result in reduced future maintenance costs, improve safety and provide a smoother, quieter road surface for motorists.”

Work is expected to take two months to complete and be carried out Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm, weather permitting.

Lake Macquarie City Council will carry out the work on behalf of Roads and Maritime Services.

Motorists are advised there will be changed traffic conditions as a result of the upgrade including lane closures and a temporary 40km/h speed limit.

Traffic controllers will be in place to direct motorists.

Work is expected to be finished by the end of June, weather permitting.

The project is part of Roads and Maritime’s commitment to delivering safe, efficient and high quality services and infrastructure to the community and businesses of NSW.
