Improvements start on Bridges Road, New Lambton
Work will start tomorrow to prepare for the upgrade of Bridges Road between St James Road and Sketchley Parade at New Lambton.
Mr Owen said the NSW Government has provided $1 million in 2014/15 for the work.
“The upgrade will be delivered in three stages and will improve drainage and provide a safer road surface for motorists,” Mr Owen said.
“The work includes replacing the stormwater pipes, the kerb and gutter along both sides of the road resurfacing as well as resurfacing and removing humps in the road at Longworth Avenue and William Street.
“Work to replace the kerb and gutter will also include rebuilding driveway access, while some footpaths will also be rebuilt.
“The work is expected to be completed in September, weather permitting, and will be carried out in sections progressively along Bridges Road,” Mr Owen said.
Due to high traffic volumes during the day, most of the work will be carried out at night to minimise disruption to traffic.
Newcastle City Council will carry out this upgrade on behalf of Roads and Maritime from Sunday to Thursday between 7.30pm and 4.30am, starting 6 July.
Changed traffic conditions will be in place including reduced lane widths and a 40km/h speed limit during work. Traffic control and signs will be in place to direct motorists.
The replacement of footpaths will be carried out during the day and pedestrians should follow the direction of traffic controllers during this time to ensure their safety.
The project is part of Roads and Maritime’s commitment to delivering safe, efficient and high quality road infrastructure to the community and businesses of NSW.
