Speed limit change on Clergate Road in Orange

Motorists are encouraged to slow down on Clergate Road in Orange with a speed limit change due to be implemented in the next fortnight, weather permitting.

Member for Orange, Andrew Gee said Roads and Maritime Services has carried out a review of the road as part of an ongoing speed zone review program and in response to a request from Orange City Council.

“The review assessed a number of factors along the road including pedestrian activity, road environment, traffic characteristics and crash data,” Mr Gee said.

The existing speed limit will be reduced from 80 km/h to 60 km/h between the Clergate Road intersections with Northern distributor Road and Quartz Street.

Warning signs will be in place to advise motorists of the changes and will remain for at least a week after the new speed limit signs have been installed.

Mr Gee said the change will make the speed limit more consistent with the road environment and aims to improve safety for all road users.

"Road safety data will be reviewed after implementation to monitor its effectiveness.”

Members of the community can sign up at the Safer Roads NSW website to receive updates about changes to permanent speed limits in their nominated area and have their say on speed limits.
