Community to benefit from $1.2 million footbridge
26 August 2014
Deputy Premier and Member for Oxley, Andrew Stoner today said pedestrians and cyclists are soon to benefit from a $1.2 million NSW Government funded upgrade of the popular footbridge over the Macleay River at Kempsey.
"The footbridge is an important link between west and south Kempsey and a major refurbishment project will start next month to increase safety for local users," Andrew Stoner said.
“The project is expected to take about nine weeks to complete and involves replacing the bridge deck and pedestrian railing on the timber bridge to reduce the need for ongoing maintenance.
“The bridge will be closed on weekdays from Monday 1 September from 8.30am to 3.30pm, weather permitting.
“Roads and Maritime would like to remind pedestrians the bridge will be fully closed during work hours to ensure safety,” Andrew Stoner said.
A weekend closure is also planned by Roads and Maritime from 8am on Saturday 6 September to 4pm on Sunday 7 September to enable the project to be completed in a shorter timeframe.
