Maintenance to improve safety on Snowy Mountains Highway
27 October 2014
Maintenance work will start this week on the Snowy Mountains Highway 55 kilometres west of Cooma, the Member for Monaro John Barilaro said today.
Work to widen the road from two kilometres west of Old Adaminaby Road to Bugtown Road will be carried out in both directions to increase the width of the road to reduce the risk and severity of crashes.
“Road drainage improvements will also be carried out to improve water runoff, said Mr Barilaro.
“Work will be carried out on weekdays from 7am to 6pm from tomorrow to 21 November, weather permitting.
“Motorists are advised to plan their journey, allow extra travel time, and obey all signs, I appreciate the patience of residents and road users while the essential maintenance is carried out.
“The work is part of Roads and Maritime's commitment to provide high quality infrastructure and services for the community.”
Mr Barilaro said some lane closures will be required and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place during working hours. The speed limit will return to 60 km/h out of work hours.
Portable traffic lights will be in place to guide motorists through the work site and delays of up to 15 minutes can be expected.
Up to date information, including any date changes and detours will be displayed on electronic message signs along the road.
