New roundabout opens at part of Manilla Road safety upgrade
18 November 2014
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has announced the final stage of the $8.6 million Manilla Road upgrade is complete with a new roundabout designed to improve safety and reduce congestion now open to traffic.
Mr Anderson said “In 2011, I committed to delivering these vital upgrades to make it safer to travel along Manilla Road and I am proud to see this project ahead of schedule.
“Stage three work from Brolga Crescent to Lemon Gums Drive aimed to increase the lifespan of Manilla Road and ease congestion by improving turning arrangements at intersections and access to properties.
“Manilla Road is a vital link road between Tamworth and the city’s North West and the new roundabout forms the third and final stage of this important upgrade.
“We started work on the roundabout in May to connect Manilla Road with Lemon Gums Drive.
“The roundabout was built in response to residents’ feedback during the display of the concept design for stage three to help traffic turn safely into Manilla Road.
“This is another great example of the NSW Government listening to the concerns of the businesses and communities in Tamworth and delivering what they expect and deserve,” Mr Anderson concluded.
Finishing work on the roundabout including linemarking, street lighting and footpath adjustments is expected to be completed by mid December.
