Work starts to improve intersection black spot near Wagga Wagga
19 November 2014
Work is under way on a $350,000 project to improve road safety for turning vehicles at an intersection east of Wagga Wagga.
Daryl Maguire MP Member for Wagga Wagga said Roads and Maritime Services had successfully secured funding to improve the Mundarlo intersection with the Sturt Highway under the State Black Spot Program.
“There were eight crashes including one fatality in the five years to 2012 at the intersection which is about 40 kilometres east of Wagga Wagga,” Mr Maguire said.
“Work will include widening the road to allow more room for vehicles to turn right into Mundarlo Road from the Sturt Highway and installing steel wire to protect vehicles which leave the road from crashing into hazards.
“Changes will also be made at the intersection to improve sight distances for turning vehicles.
Work will be carried out on weekdays between 7am and 5pm and between 7am and 1pm Saturday.
Motorists should allow extra travel time, follow all signs and the direction of traffic control and temporary traffic lights.
A reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place through the work site during work hours with 80 km/h outside work hours.
Roads and Maritime thanks the community for their patience during the intersection upgrade work which is expected to be completed before Christmas.
