Temporary closure for maintenance work on Vacy Bridge
19 November 2014
George Souris, M.P., Member for Upper Hunter, has been advised that Roads and Maritime Services will carry out essential maintenance work on Vacy Bridge at Gostwyck from Tuesday 9 December.
Mr. Souris said Vacy Bridge will be closed for six days from 6am on Tuesday 9 December to 9pm on Sunday 14 December for essential maintenance.
“For the safety of road users and workers, the bridge will be closed during work to upgrade the bridge ends,” Mr. Souris said.
“Detours will be in place via Horns Crossing Road at Martins Creek and Dungog Road at Gostwyck.
“This maintenance work follows major work recently carried out on Gostwyck Bridge which will be open to traffic during the Vacy Bridge closures.
“Work on Gostwyck Bridge included upgrades to the timber approach spans. Strengthening of the steel spans is under way and painting work is expected to start early next year.
“These upgrades will help reduce future maintenance activities and bridge closures, and will help support the ongoing social and commercial development of the Dungog area,” Mr. Souris said.
“Work on both bridges is expected to be completed mid next year.
“Motorists should allow extra travel time and follow all signs. Roads and Maritime thanks residents and motorists for their patience during this essential bridge maintenance work.
“For the latest traffic information, visit www.livetraffic.com or call 132 701,” Mr. Souris concluded.
