Have your say on Central Coast intersection improvements at West Gosford
28 November 2014
Roads and Maritime Services is inviting community feedback on a proposal to upgrade the Central Coast Highway and Racecourse Road intersection at West Gosford to improve safety and traffic flow.
Member for Gosford, Chris Holstein, said the NSW Government has allocated $1 million to design the intersection upgrade to improve travel for the more than 38,000 vehicles which use this section of highway daily.
“The proposed improvements aim to improve safety and the flow of traffic at this intersection and complement the work under way at the Brisbane Water Drive and Manns Road intersection,” Mr Holstein said.
“In the five years to December 2013 there were 20 crashes including 12 injuries at this intersection.
“Feedback is invited to a proposed dedicated left turn lane with traffic light control from the Central Coast Highway onto Racecourse Road to allow for a third through lane for motorists travelling east on the Central Coast Highway.
“The design also includes a traffic light controlled left turn lane from Racecourse Road onto the Central Coast Highway and a new pedestrian crossing across the highway.
“A new bus bay would be provided on the highway next to the racecourse to provide a safe stopping area for buses.”
Mr Holstein said a 2.5 metre wide shared pathway for pedestrians and cyclists is also proposed to be installed along the northern side of the Central Coast Highway.
The proposal is available to view on the Roads and Maritime website until the end of January with all feedback received to be considered in finalising the intersection design.
Work would start mid next year, weather permitting.
