Community invited to have a say on Belinda Street closure
4 December 2014
Member for Kiama Gareth Ward today announced that community feedback is being sought on the best option to carry out work to replace a large drain at Union Creek with a new bridge as part of the $329 million Princes Highway upgrade at Gerringong.
Mr Ward said that the existing concrete drain on the corner of Rowlins Road and Belinda Street will be upgraded to reduce flooding.
“This work will involve removing the existing drain, road work and building a new bridge,” he said.
“The work can only be completed by closing Belinda Street at the work location and is expected to take place early next year.
“Roads and Maritime is considering two options for this closure and is asking for the community’s feedback to ensure minimal impact from the work.
“The first option involves a full closure of Belinda Street at the work site for three weeks, with extended work hours between Monday and Saturday from 7am to 10pm.
“The second option involves a five week full closure at the site with work hours between Monday and Friday from 7am to 6pm and Saturday between 8am and 5pm, weather permitting.
“The local community can provide feedback on the two options being considered until Thursday 18th December,” Mr Ward said.
Feedback can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org or by phoning toll free 1800 506 976.
During the closure, the heavy vehicle weight limit on Fern Street would be lifted to minimise the impact to motorists.
