Speewa vehicle ferry reconditioned and back in service
John Williams The Nationals Member for Murray-Darling advised today that the maintenance overhaul of the Speewa vehicle ferry across the Murray River near Swan Hill has been completed and it’s now back in the water and providing motorists with crossings of the Murray River.
Mr Williams said the vehicle ferry was removed from the water in November for a $320,000 service.
“The Speewa Ferry is a cable ferry which allows motorists to cross the Murray River near Swan Hill at no charge,” Mr Williams said.
“The ferry is operated by Roads and Maritime but is jointly funded by NSW and Victoria and operates seven days a week, carrying a maximum of three cars at a time.
“During the maintenance work, motorists were detoured via Swan Hill or Nyah.
“This maintenance work will ensure the ferry continues to provide motorists and ferry users with a safe and reliable service,” Mr Williams said.
Roads and Maritime thanks the community for their patience during the ferry maintenance.
