Night bus services return at Batemans Bay and Narooma
19 December 2014
Bega MP Andrew Constance advises residents and holidaymakers at Batemans Bay and Narooma a summer night bus service has returned to help people make it safely home from a night out.
Mr Constance said two maxi taxis will operate at 10 minute intervals to transport people from Batemans Bay to designated stops along Beach Road as far as Surf Beach.
“A service will also operate at Narooma and drop people as far south as Island View Beach Resort and as far north as Dalmeny,” Mr Constance said.
“The night bus aims to improve safety for all road users by reducing drink driving and people walking home after a few drinks.
“It is a great ‘Plan B’ and also encourages people to leave their car at home and enjoy a safe night out knowing this alternative transport option is available.”
The night bus at both locations will operate on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
“Along with those two popular nights for revellers, the Batemans Bay service will operate each Saturday night from 27 December to 24 January between 11pm and 1am,” Mr Constance said.
“I am pleased there will also be an extra service on Australia Day.”
“With the help of this service I look forward to a safe and successful summer with the night bus getting everyone home safely,” Mr Constance said.
The NSW Government under the Centre for Road Safety’s Community Road Safety Fund has provided $11,000 towards the night bus services with users required to donate $2.
Timetables and route details can be found at www.nightbus.com.au and support venues.
