Work starts on Doctors Creek Bridge at Narrabri
27 January 2015
The NSW Government will start erosion repair work under Doctors Creek Bridge on the Newell Highway in Narrabri in the first week of February.
Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries said the $1 million project, funded under the State Roads and Assets Natural Disasters program will repair the creek bed which was damaged during flooding.
“Work to repair the area is scheduled to start under the bridge on Monday 2 February and be completed by mid-year, weather permitting,” Mr Humphries said.
“The creek bed was eroded by flood water which has also caused some damage to the bridge.
“As part of the repair work the creek bed will be lined with rock to protect the bridge piers and abutments against future flood damage.
“The work aims to improve safety for the more than 5000 vehicles that use this bridge daily, including about 1200 heavy vehicles.”
Mr Humphries said while there will be no delays to traffic because the work is under the bridge, there will be an increase in heavy vehicle traffic entering and exiting the work site from Segol and Maitland streets.
Work will be carried out on weekdays from 7am to 5pm, weather permitting.
