Road improvements start on New England Highway at Kankool
13 February 2015
George Souris, MP Member for Upper Hunter announced the NSW Government is starting road improvements on the New England Highway at Kankool on Monday 23 February.
Mr. Souris said he had received representations in support of the upgrade from Nationals candidate for Upper Hunter Michael Johnsen.
Mr. Souris said the NSW Government provided $2.1 million to improve a one kilometre section of the New England Highway between Bernard Street at Murrurundi and Main Street at Ardglen and a 4 kilometre section of the highway near Glenyalla Road at Kankool.
“Work includes repairing the road surface to improve safety for road users, reduce ongoing maintenance costs and extend the life of the road,” Mr. Souris said.
This work is expected to take six weeks to complete, weather permitting.
Work will be carried out on weekdays between 6.30am and 6pm and on Saturday between 8am and 4pm.
To ensure the safety of workers, motorists and other road users, a temporary 40km/h speed limit will remain in place during work and signs will help direct motorists.
Mr. Souris thanks the community for their patience while this essential road safety improvement work is carried out.
