Night closure on Victoria Pass for first weekend in May

27 April 2015

Roads and Maritime Services advises motorists Victoria Pass on the Great Western Highway will beclosed on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 May for planned maintenance work.

Member for Bathurst Paul Toole MP said the NSW Government allocated $300,000 for the maintenance work to improve safety.

“Work will include repairs to the road surface and guardrails as well as drainage improvements and vegetation trimming at several locations along the road,” Mr Toole said.

“The road will be closed to traffic between 8pm and 5am on both nights, weather permitting, for the safety of motorists and workers and to ensure work is carried out in the most efficient way with minimal impact on the community.

“Traffic will be detoured during the closures via the Darling Causeway and Bells Line of Road between Mount Victoria and Lithgow, which will add about 10 minutes to the journey. Traffic joining the highway from Jenolan Caves Road, including traffic from Oberon, will turn left towards Lithgow to join the detour around the pass. “

"This will require an additional 14 kilometre journey from Jenolan Caves Road to Mount Victoria via Lithgow, which will add about 15 minutes to the journey. The detour route has been approved for B-doubles up to 19 metres long.”

“Efforts will be made to minimise the impact of noise on nearby residents," Mr Toole said.

Motorists should plan their journey, allow extra travel time and follow the direction of traffic control and signs, including reduced speed limits.

Roads and Maritime thanks the community for its patience during this essential road maintenance work.Up to date information, including any date changes and detours will be displayed on electronic message signs along the road.
