Major safety improvement work starts on Kings Highway near Braidwood
Tuesday 2 June 2015
Work to improve road safety on the Kings Highway near River Forest Road east of Braidwood is scheduled to start next week, the Member for Monaro John Barilaro said today.
“The planned upgrade at River Forest Road is part of ongoing safety work to reduce the impact of head on and run off crashes on the Kings Highway,” Mr Barilaro said.
“Work includes reducing the number of bends, widening road shoulders and improvements to line marking.
“Preliminary work, including tree clearing, will be carried out along the stretch of the Kings Highway where there have been four fatalities and numerous injuries in recent years.”
Work starts on Tuesday 9 June and will be carried out on weekdays between 7am and 5pm and Saturdays between 8am and 2pm, weather permitting.
Mr Barilaro said one lane may be closed during work hours with traffic control and a reduced 40km/h speed limit in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
Electronic message signs will display any changes to work times and dates.
Roads and Maritime thanks motorists for their patience while work is carried out.
