Johnsen welcomes road safety improvements on highway at Muswellbrook

20 August 2015

Michael Johnsen MP, Member for Upper Hunter welcomed news that the Roads and Maritime Services will start work next Monday to improve motorists’ safety on the New England Highway east of Bimbadeen Drive at Muswellbrook.

Mr Johnsen said the NSW Government allocated $5.5 million for essential upgrade work on a 1.8 kilometre section of the highway which includes strengthening and widening the road surface and installing kerbside barriers.

“The work also includes improvements to drainage which aims to reduce ongoing maintenance costs and improve motorists’ safety by ensuring storm water is able to quickly leave the road,” Mr Johnsen said.

“Work is scheduled to start next Monday 24 August and is expected to take four months to complete, weather permitting.”

Work will be carried out between 7am and 6pm on weekdays and 7am and 4pm on Saturdays.

“Some night work will also be carried out to minimise the impact to traffic and will take place between 6pm and 6am Sunday to Friday, as required,” Mr Johnsen said.

Lane closures, traffic control and a reduced 40km/h speed limit will be in place during work hours for the safety of motorists and workers.

Roads and Maritime thanks motorists for their patience while this essential upgrade work is carried out.
