Gunnedah overpass progresses

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

25 August 2015

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson today announced that the benefits of a second rail overpass in Gunnedah are one step closer to being realised with the project review of environmental factors (REF) being finalised.

“Gunnedah residents called for a second rail overpass back in 2010 to improve community safety and ensure efficient movement of emergency services in times of need,” Mr Anderson said.

“The need for a second overpass in Gunnedah was confirmed through the Bridges for the Bush initiative, and it’s great to see the project progressing.

“The new overpass will replace the existing New Street level crossing and provide an unrestricted higher mass limit heavy vehicle route through Gunnedah.

Mr Anderson said the REF has assessed the potential environmental and social impacts of the project, and detailed design work is already underway.

“In June, members of the community were invited to comment on the REF and 21 submissions were received.

”The feedback has been compiled in a submissions report which is now available on the project website.”

“Once the detailed design work is complete, Roads and Maritime will invite tenders for major work.

“Gunnedah Shire Council is continuing to build a new roundabout at the intersection of Conadilly and Warrabungle streets to improve traffic flow through Gunnedah” Mr Anderson concluded.
