Safety improvements at two intersections on Newcastle Road
9 September 2015
Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter, Scot MacDonald MLC announced today that upgrades have been completed at two key intersections along Newcastle Road in Lambton.
Mr MacDonald said the NSW Government provided $2 million to upgrade Newcastle Road at the Lloyd Road and Moorehead Street intersections to improve traffic flow and safety.
“In the five years to mid 2013 there were 13 crashes at the Newcastle Road intersection with Lloyd Road which resulted in four injuries, with the majority of crashes involving motorists turning right into Lloyd Road from Newcastle Road,” Mr MacDonald said.
“Improvement work at this intersection involved installing new traffic lights with pedestrian crossings and extending the right turn bay from Newcastle Road into Lloyd Road.”
“The new traffic lights will improve safety by controlling the right turn into Lloyd Road, better manage traffic flow at the intersection and improve safety for pedestrians accessing bus stops on both sides of the road.”
To better manage traffic flowing onto Newcastle Road, motorists are no longer able to make a right turn out of Lloyd Road and are advised to turn right at the Orlando Road traffic lights.
“Safety improvements were also carried out at the Newcastle Road and Morehead Street intersection,” Mr MacDonald said.
“Traffic light controlled pedestrian crossings were provided across Morehead Street for easier and safer access to bus stops on both sides of Newcastle Road.”
Roads and Maritime thanks the community for their patience while this essential safety improvement work was carried out.
