Gonn Crossing Bridge to close for maintenance work
10 Sptember 2015
Roads and Maritime Services advises motorists of changed traffic conditions starting this week on Gonn Crossing Bridge on Murrabit Road.
Member for Murray, Adrian Piccoli said the NSW Government has allocated $850,000 funding for essential maintenance work to improve safety for motorists and reduce future maintenance requirements.
“Work will involve replacing steel wire rope on the lift span, improving access to the lifts pan, replacing sections of the bridge deck and routine maintenance,” Mr Piccoli said.
“Work will be carried out on weekdays between 7am and 5pm, with the project expected to be completed by February next year, weather permitting.
“To ensure the safety of bridge users and workers, the bridge will be closed from Monday 21 September to Friday 2 October between 8am and 5pm, weather permitting, to carry out bridge deck work.
“During this time, all motorists will need to detour via Barham Koondrook Bridge, which will add about another 45 minutes in travel time.”
Mr Piccoli said the community will be advised of further closures in November for work to be carried out on the lift span.
Motorists should allow extra travel time and follow the direction of traffic control and all signs, including reduced speed limits.
