Speed zone changes on key roads in Albury
7 October 2015
Motorists are advised of speed limit changes on Union Road, Albury and part of the Albury CBD from today.
Member for Albury, Greg Aplin said Roads and Maritime Services carried out a review of the speed limit as part of an ongoing speed review program and in response to feedback from Albury City Council and the community.
“After receiving feedback from members of the public, Albury City Council worked with Roads and Maritime to review the speed limit on Union Road.
“As a result, the speed limit from the Fiveways intersection to around 550 metres west of Racecourse Road will increase from 50km/h to 60km/h.
“This change will address community concerns about speed zone consistency and decrease travel time through the area.
“In addition, a 10 km/h shared zone will be in place from today in the CBD on Amp Lane from Smollett to Dean Street, Selle Lane from Smollett Street to Volt Lane and Volt Lane from Amp Lane to Olive Street.
“The new speed, reduced from 50 km/h, takes into account an increase in retail outlets and pedestrian activity within Amp, Selle and Volt lanes and concerns raised about pedestrian safety.”
“Road users should be aware of the changes and remember speed limits are enforceable once the new signs are installed.
“Members of the community can sign up at the Safer Roads NSW website to receive updates about changes to permanent speed limits in their nominated area and have their say on speed limits,” Mr Aplin said.
