Have a say on safety improvements on the Golden Highway at Denman
9 October 2015
Michael Johnsen MP, Member for Upper Hunter today invited the community to comment directly to Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) on a revised proposal for traffic flow and safety improvements on the Golden Highway at Denman.
Mr Johnsen said the NSW Government allocated $3.5 million for Muswellbrook Council to improve safety on the Golden Highway and improve access to Palace and Crinoline streets at Denman as part of the Resources for Regions Program.
“The proposal includes realigning a 120 metre section of highway to bypass the existing four way intersection at Palace and Crinoline streets to improve safety and reduce heavy vehicle braking on the highway,” Mr Johnsen said.
“RMS made a number of changes to the design after community feedback was received during the display in December last year.
“Key changes to the design include a proposed alternative access to St Joseph’s Primary School. This would involve maintaining existing access to the school from the Golden Highway which would be widened near the school entry and a new right turn bay provided.”
Mr Johnsen said design is progressing well and is expected to be completed next month before work starts early next year.
“Local community feedback on the proposed changes to the project are invited to be given by Friday 23 October and will be considered in finalising the intersection design,” Mr Johnsen said.
“RMS will continue to keep our local community informed during the planning process and will notify residents before work starts on site.”
“The NSW Government is committed to improving both the amenity and the safety of drivers in Upper Hunter, and I would encourage our local community to provide comments on the proposal” Mr Johnsen concluded.
