Feedback sought on removal of North Wollongong pedestrian crossing
12 October 2015
Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast, and Member for Kiama Gareth Ward is seeking feedback from the local community about proposed changes at the intersection of Bourke Street and the Princes Highway at North Wollongong.
Mr Ward said that the proposal would involve removing thee pedestrian crossing on the Princes Highway, at the northern side of Bourke Street once new traffic lights are built.
“New traffic lights are being built on the Princes Highway at Station Street, immediately to the north of this pedestrian crossing which would effectively replace the need for the zebra crossing,” he said.
“Roads and Maritime would remove the marked crossing once the new traffic lights including pedestrian crossing at Station Street are completed.
“Removal of the pedestrian crossing is expected to result in improvements to traffic delays and queues for motorists leaving Bourke Street.
“Roads and Maritime appreciates the community’s feedback on this proposed initiative,” Mr Ward concluded.
Feedback can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org or by contacting Project Manager Dean Simmonds on (02) 4221 2456 by Friday 30th October.
