Submissions report now online for Newell Highway improvements at Grong Grong

20 October 2015

Member for Cootamundra, Katrina Hodgkinson is encouraging the community to view the submissions report for planned improvements for the Newell Highway at Grong Grong.

The report responds to feedback provided during the public display of the environmental assessment for the project called the Review of Environmental Factors (REF).
Katrina said the NSW Government was committed to delivering the best possible road network to support the long term future and viability of the local area. “We are continually looking for ways to improve freight efficiency and road safety in regional NSW,” Katrina said.

“This project will deliver a 2.4 kilometre long section of highway with a speed limit of 110 km/h to the west of Grong Grong.

“The highway will remain two-lane, with turning lanes at two intersections to provide access into Grong Grong.

“The project includes any necessary maintenance work on the existing highway before handing over the road to Narrandera Shire Council.

“An amount of $5 million has been allocated in 2015-16 to progress planning and start building work. “Detailed design is being finalised for work to start early next year. Local residents and motorists can expect to see initial work such as site set up, utility relocation and fencing later this year. “Extensive community consultation has been carried out and Roads and Maritime received feedback from local government, businesses, community groups, residents and motorists.

“The NSW Government is committed to working with local residents to minimise impact, and provide the best balance of community needs.

“Roads and Maritime will continue to provide the community with updates throughout the project,” Katrina said.

Road users and residents are invited to view the submissions report summarising the comments, responses, changes to the proposal and details of the environmental measures and safeguards on our website.
