Tenders invited for Newell Highway realignment at Trewilga
26 October 2015
Roads and Maritime Services are inviting tenders for work to realign the Newell Highway at Trewilga.
Member for Orange Andrew Gee said the realignment project will support the NSW Government’s Newell Highway Corridor Strategy, to ensure the regional freight and transport networks can meet the growing needs of the NSW community.
“The project will involve an upgrade of a 6.5 kilometre section of the Newell Highway, north of Parkes at Trewilga,” Mr Gee said.
“The scope of the work will include widening the highway, sealing shoulders and straightening curves.
“It will also involve providing a bus turning area at Kadina Road, providing a northbound 1.3 kilometre-long overtaking lane and a truck parking area on the eastern side of the highway.”
Mr Gee said the project had been identified to improve safety on the section of the Newell Highway which has a high reported crash rate.
“Trewilga is one of the only rural sections of the road with a lower speed limit of 100 km/h. By improving this ‘missing link’ we will deliver improvements for this major freight route,” Mr Gee added.
Interested parties must attend the pre-tender meeting, which will be held at the Peak Hill RSL at 10am on Thursday 5 November with a site inspection to follow.
Tenders close at 2.30pm on Wednesday 2 December 2015.
