Concrete deck pouring starts at Maitland
10 November 2015
The New England Highway upgrade reaches a another milestone this week as the first concrete deck section has been poured on the new eastbound overpass near the railway station roundabout on Church Street at Maitland.
Parliamentary Secretary for the hunter, Scot MacDonald MLC said the NSW Government allocated $51 million to improve safety and traffic flow on the New England Highway at Maitland, including $45 million through the Hunter Infrastructure and Investment Fund.
“The new eastbound overpass will provide two lanes of traffic along the New England Highway above the roundabout on Church Street and flood plain area near the eastern end of the bridge,” Mr MacDonald said.
“Concrete pours started at the western end of the new overpass and each section of the deck will be poured one at a time.”
“About 70 cubic metres of concrete which is enough to fill a family sized swimming pool will be poured,” Mr MacDonald said.
“Each section of the concrete deck pour is expected to be completed in one day.”
Roads and Maritime will continue to keep the community informed of future work times, dates and any required road closures.
