Safety improvements completed at Lakes Way black spot
21 February 2016
Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead is pleased that motorists can now benefit from improved road safety arrangements, with work completed today at the intersection of The Lakes Way and Blackhead Road at Rainbow Flat.
Mr Bromhead said the NSW Government provided a $1 million grant to Greater Taree City Council through the NSW Safer Roads Program for Council to improve road safety and increase visibility at this busy intersection.
“In the five years to December 2014 there were 15 crashes within a 50 metre radius of the intersection,” Mr Bromhead said.
“This intersection provides the major thoroughfare for residents at Hallidays Point, Tallwoods, Black Head and Diamond Beach and I am pleased that the new works greatly improve access for motorists.
“The completed upgrade involved providing a dedicated left turn lane onto Blackhead Road separated from traffic on the southbound through lane on The Lakes Way.
“A concrete median was also provided on Blackhead Road to improve sight lines for motorists turning right onto The Lakes Way.
“Work also included upgrading lighting and improving the road surface at the intersection and providing a dedicated bus bay on the southern side of the intersection.
“I thank motorists for their patience while this essential safety improvement work was carried out by Greater Taree City Council.”
